New Delhi: As Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman prepares to present the Interim Budget 2024 in Parliament in three days, there are emerging indications suggesting that the government could unveil a raise in the yearly financial support to farmers through the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme.
According to a report in the Economic Times, the Finance Minister might declare an increase in the annual financial assistance from Rs 6,000 to approximately Rs 9,000 under the PM KISAN scheme, marking a 50 percent rise in support. The Economic Times has surveyed various analysts, some of whom estimate the figure to range between Rs 8,000 to Rs 10,000, while others suggest a possible annual assistance of Rs 9,000 for PM-Kisan.
The 15th Distribution of the PM KISAN Scheme occurred in November 2023, where PM Modi distributed the 15th tranche of approximately Rs 18,000 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) to eligible farmers through direct benefit transfers to over 8 crore beneficiaries.
The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Scheme, inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi in 2019, aims to offer income support to all landholding farmer families nationwide, with cultivable land, excluding certain categories. Under the Scheme, Rs 6,000 per year is disbursed in three monthly installments of Rs 2,000 each directly into the bank accounts of beneficiaries.
