If aspiring to crack the UPSC Civil Service Examinations, your chance may have finally arrived – the Union Public Service Commission has officially begun registrations for CSE Prelims 2024 on its website upsconline.nic.in. In a notification released today, the commission has invited UPSC aspirants to apply for the examinations, provided they meet all eligibility conditions before 6 pm on March 5, 2024.

The commission has been conducting examinations to fill up 1,056 vacancies. Indeed, it is common for aspiring UPSC candidates to have a number of questions regarding the admission process, eligibility criteria, key dates and vacancy details among others. In this article, we bring all the main points from the notification so that you can easily understand till success come your way.

UPSC CSE HOW DO I APPLY?

  • Once mentioned aforehand, the first step to submit your applications is to go to upsconline.nic.in. In case of online application for examination, a candidate must register himself/herself on One Time Registration (OTR) platform available on the Commission’s website before filling up the online application. If candidate is already registered then he/she can proceed straightaway for filling up the application.
  • After registration in OTR Platform every registered candidate should remember that any modification in his/her OTR profile is allowed only once in lifetime. The change in OTR profile data shall be available till 7 days from next day after closing date of submission.
  • Modifications in any filed of the application form can also be made after its submission. As per notice, Commission has extended time period of making correction on application form for CSE-2024 Examination w.e.f. next day after closure of ‘Application Window’. This window will remain open from 06.03.2024 till 12.03.2024 for seven days.
  • Applications once submitted cannot be withdrawn by candidates.
  • Documents required for application: Details of State/Central government issued Photo ID Card – Aadhaar Card/Voter Card/PAN Card/Passport/Driving Licence/etc. The Photo ID Card will be used for all future reference.
  •  Candidates are also advised to carry the Photo ID Card while appearing for Examination/Personality Test.

PHOTOGRAPHS ON APPLICATION FORM

  • The candidate should not use a photograph that is more than ten days old from the beginning of applying online.
  • Candidate’s name and date the photo was taken should be printed on it.
  • 3/4th  of space should be covered by the face of the candidate in the photo.
  • At all stages such as Preliminary, Main and Interview/Personality Test, candidates must ensure that their appearance matches exactly with the photograph they submitted.

UPSC CSE Eligibility Criteria:

Nationality:

IAS, IFS and IPS – For Indian citizen. For other posts, the candidate should be an Indian citizen, Nepalese subject, Bhutanese subject, Tibetan refugee who returned to India before January 1, 1962 with the intention of permanent residence in India, or a person of Indian origin from… Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East Africa Has emigrated from Kenya, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, Vietnam Must provide a certificate of eligibility from the Government of India for.

Age Limit:

Must be 21 years of age and not 32 years of age on August 1, 2024.

Upper Age Limit Relaxation:

OBC – 3 years, SC/ST – 5 years, PWBD – 10 years

Number of Attempts:

General – 6, OBC – 9, SC/ST – No Restriction, PWBD – 9

Educational Qualification:

Bachelor’s Degree , 1956 or equivalent qualification from any University or other educational institution created by Central-State Legislative Council Act or Act of Parliament or declared as a University under Part 3 of the University Grants Commission Act.

Application Fee:

Candidates are required to pay a fee of Rs. 100 or by transferring funds to any branch of State Bank of India, by using the netbanking system of any bank or by using the master/rupee/credit/debit card/UPI payment system.

Candidates belonging to women/SC/ST/persons with disabilities in the benchmark are exempted from fees.

Application Restriction:

Candidate recruited in Indian Administrative Service or Indian Foreign Service will not be eligible to appear for CSE 2024.

UPSC CSE Details of the vacancy:

  • Total number of vacancies: 1,056
  • Vacancies reserved for PWD category:  40 vacancies (6 Vacancies for candidates with blindness and low vision, 12 Vacancies for deaf and hard of hearing, 9 Vacancies for locomotor disability including cerebral palsy, leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy, and 13 Vacancies for multiple disabilities from amongst persons under clauses (a) to (c) including deaf-blindness.
  • The final number of vacancies could be changed after receiving firm numbers from the labor authorities, the commission said.
  • Reservation is made for SC candidates. Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, Economically Weaker Sections and persons with disabilities are in the benchmark for the vacancies as per the government, the commission said.

UPSC CSE Key dates to remember:

  • The opening date for applications is February 14, 2024.
  • The deadline for applications is March 5, 2024, at 6 p.m.
  • Application modification: March 6 – March 12, 2024.
  • Preliminary exam: May 26, 2024.
