If you own a car and possess a FASTag, along with sufficient balance, it’s crucial to verify your KYC status. NHAI has announced that banks will deactivate FASTags lacking complete KYC (Know Your Customer) by January 31. According to RBI guidelines, users must fulfill KYC requirements for FASTags, as emphasized by NHAI. NHAI, a state-owned entity, has stated that FASTags with a valid balance but incomplete KYC will be deactivated by banks after January 31, 2024. To avoid any inconvenience, NHAI underscores the importance of users ensuring the completion of KYC for their vehicle’s FASTag.

The news agency PTI reported that NHAI aims to improve the effectiveness of the electronic toll collection system and ensure smooth traffic flow at toll plazas with the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative. This effort is intended to deter the improper use of a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or the association of multiple FASTags with a particular vehicle, as per NHAI.

“After the 31st of January 2024, only the most recent FASTag account will stay operational, as earlier tags will be deactivated or blacklisted,” NHAI stated. They also encourage FASTag users to follow the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ guideline and responsibly dispose of any previously issued FASTags through their respective banks.

NHAI has communicated that FASTag users can contact nearby toll plazas or reach the toll-free customer care number provided by their respective issuing banks. NHAI emphasized that this step is taken in response to recent instances where several FASTags were issued for a specific vehicle.

Additionally, NHAI observed that FASTags are occasionally intentionally not affixed to the vehicle’s windscreen, leading to avoidable delays at toll plazas and causing inconvenience to fellow users of national highways.
